Students Reflect on the 2017 Summer Workshop
By Gabrielle Schwabauer, Staff Writer
After nearly two months of effort, the 2017 OYAN Summer Workshop Journal is finally complete! This Journal is a compilation of student responses to our recent Summer Workshop. Students were free to submit writing in any form they chose—poetry, formal writing, a casual letter-style piece—whatever method best conveyed their experience at the event. I also asked them to submit photos, whether half a dozen or hundreds upon hundreds, and used the images to accent the stories. The result is a photo journal of the One Year Adventure Novel workshop experience.
Whether you have a student eager to experience the workshop for the first time, you missed attending this year and want to read your friends’ perspectives, or you contributed your own writing and you’ve been waiting to see the finished product, I hope you find the Journal informative, compelling, and a whole lot of fun.
Thank you so much to all of the students who contributed in some way! Reading your writing and sorting through the sea of photos was truly a privilege.
– All these stories made me so happy. I’m excited to see where the next generation goes from here.
– There are a lot of great writers here. Some of the imagery was so vivid, and the language so distinct.
– I have a growing appreciation for bugs and their hidden life. Thanks for that dose of wonder.
