We understand why both eager and reluctant writers are frustrated by traditional writing assignments.
Whether you have a student who loves to write and needs training to take this gift to the next level, or a student who could just use a fun change of pace from a traditional English curriculum, we can help!
Through 78 video lessons, The One Year Adventure Novel high school English curriculum guides 9th–12th graders step by step in creating an original, fully-structured, compelling adventure novel—in one school year.
The program’s unique approach to writing begins where many writing courses don’t go at all, with an exploration of Story.
- Taught on video by award-winning author Daniel Schwabauer.
- Licensed to make adding students easy! More on our curriculum license »
- Comes with extensive support resources that offer young writers a place in a vibrant creative community.

A supportive creative community
Contests
Every year, we run a Student Novel Contest for our students. Any student under 20 who has a valid license and who finishes a novel that meets the course requirements can submit. It’s a great way for young writers to start sharing their writing.
Webinars
Webinars are live, video-streamed meetings where “Mr. S.” discusses topics related to the course or to writing in general. Students can use the chat messaging feature to interact and ask questions. We offer two webinars per month, August–May.
Student Forum
Licensed students ages 13–19 may create (with parent permission) an online Student Forum account where they can ask questions and give and receive peer feedback on their writing.
We personally validate every new account, confirming that each member is a legitimate One Year Adventure Novel student to enhance the safety of our forum environment.
Writing Workshops
Every year we host a week-long writing workshop: the Summer Workshop for ages 13+. Summer Workshop is truly a magical experience, featuring sessions by authors, publishers, and agents, peer critique groups, individual mentoring sessions, and incredible fun. There is a charge for these events, and a valid curriculum license is required to attend.
